NORTHERN VIRGINIA – Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) and the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) have awarded 14 college scholarships to outstanding high school seniors in Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford counties, and in the City of Manassas Park.
Each year, the NOVEC High School Scholarship Program awards college scholarships to students based on their excellent academic records, recommendations, community involvement, work experience, and demonstrated leadership.
"Helping graduating seniors get a college education is part of NOVEC's commitment to education," states Donna Snellings, NOVEC public and government relations liaison. "We salute and congratulate all scholarship winners as they begin their college years this fall."
Selection committees reviewed hundreds of applications from students whose families receive electricity from NOVEC. They selected 10 public high schools students to receive $1,500 scholarships. They awarded an additional $1,500 scholarship to a student who was either home-schooled or attended a private school. After reviewing the applications of these 11 students, the committees selected the most outstanding student to win the $1,500 J. Manley Garber scholarship. This student, Rachel Zoll, received a total of $3,000 in scholarship money.

VMDAEC Educational Scholarship Foundation
The VMDAEC Educational Scholarship Foundation has award 61 $1,000 scholarships this year to students who receive power from electric cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. The scholarships are based on financial need, academic achievement, and a personal statement. Scholarship winners will enter their first semester of college, technical or trade school in autumn 2014.
