Our Commitment to the Environment
NOVEC is distributing more renewable power today than ever before. And it is using energy more efficiently and helping customers to do the same. In all endeavors, from facility construction to office paper use, NOVEC keeps protection of the environment in mind.
Among renewable energy sources in Virginia, biomass power production is one of the most dependable, economical, and environmentally friendly alternatives available. This is especially true in Virginia’s Southside region where acres of forests and commercial logging create abundant wood waste. This region is where NOVEC built its first power plant: the NOVEC Halifax County Biomass Electric Generating Facility. The plant’s 49.9-megawatt capacity is capable of providing enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of 16,000 NOVEC homes.
NOVEC has also assisted customers interested in connecting their solar-energy systems to the grid through net metering since 2003. In early 2017, NOVEC Solutions, an affiliated for-profit NOVEC company, joined forces with ProspectSolar to help provide solar photovoltaic systems to interested customers.
